I-League: Marcos Signs For MB

The Marcos Pereira transfer saga has come to an end as Mohun Bagan signed him yesterday to fill their vacant third foreigner slot. This was after JCT decided to release the Brazilian.

Goal.com first reported that Mohun Bagan are likely to land the playmaker almost a month back and despite all the issues which delayed the move, Marcos is with the Kolkata club.

Trouble began when Mohun Bagan began courting Marcos after the end of the Kolkata League though the club officials claimed otherwise. The central midfielder mentioned of having received an offer from the Kolkata giants to JCT coach Sukhwinder Singh. Thereafter Marcos left for Kolkata from the team hotel without informing JCT officials.

“Mohun Bagan wrote to AIFF (All India Football Federation) that we are delaying Marcos’ move. We answered the letter. The Players Status Committee decided that Marcos wasn’t eligible to play for Mohun Bagan and could only move in the second transfer window in December,” said JCT coach Sukhwinder Singh.

The former Indian national team coach states that the reason JCT decided to release Marcos was that it didn’t want to hold a player against his wishes.

“Why should we keep him if he didn’t want to stay? We just had to show the Federation (AIFF) that we were open in our dealings.”

Sukhwinder mentioned that his club received some amount from Mohun Bagan to release Marcos Pereira.

“Marcos came on our money and there were other expenses which had to be reimbursed. A genuine amount of money was given to us.”
