I-League: JCT To Miss Edu

A crippled JCT would take on Mahindra United today in the fourth round I-League encounter as three of their first XI players are out due to injury concerns.

Striker Eduardo Da Silva and midfielders Baldeep Singh Senior and Junior have been ruled out of the match.

Speaking to Goal.com, Coach Sukhwinder Singh said, “In the last match, Edu played with injury. We don’t want to risk in this (today’s) match. Playing him would only worsen the situation.

“Baldeep Senior has some problem with his ankle ligament while Baldeep Junior injured himself in the last game against Mohammedan Sporting.”

The absence of Eduardo means that the team would have only one foreign player in their line-up – Julius Akpele.

“We have Julius and our local Punjabi boys. They shall do the trick.”

JCT are on a high having garnered seven points of the possible nine but Sukhwinder feels that it’s still too early to count the chickens.

“From three games, you cannot say which way the league is heading towards.”

The Punjab side were beaten by Mahindra United in the Durand Cup semi-finals earlier last month and so, the veteran coach has full respect for the 12th placed team in the I-League.

“I don’t know why they (Mahindra) are behind but we respect them.”

Playing away at JCT is always difficult for the visiting teams but the coach doesn’t heed to this notion.

“Mahindra United have all seasoned players. The weather is pleasant and the ground conditions are normal. I don’t think JCT is a difficult place to play.”
